After The Crossfire – UFC Fight Night 49: Henderson vs dos Anjos

It was Rafael dos Anjos’ time.

He knew he was the underdog coming into his lightweight main event matchup with Benson Henderson. But even he looked a little surprised after he knocked out favourite Benson Henderson in the first very round at UFC Fight Night 49.

Dos Anjos, Canadian Jordan Mein, Thales Leites, and Ben Saunders each picked up $50,000 USD performance of the night bonuses.

CHAS “THE SCRAPPER” KELLY  VS TOM “STONEFACE” NINIMAKI

WINNER: CHAS SKELLY VIA 1ST RD SUBMISSION

Andrews: That was quick. Skelly cranked on the left jaw of Niinimaki and secured the tap before the fight really got flowing. There should be time to put him back on for a second fight tonight.

WINNER: JAMES VICK VIA UNANIMOUS DECISION.

Andrews: These guys fought like the loser had to pay the other’s bar tab for the night. Vick utilized his right hand and headkicks and knees, while Lazaro used legkicks, wild hooks and the takedown.  Vick landed more, but both guys put on a great fight.

WINNER: MAX HOLLOWAY VIA 3RD ROUND TKO.

Andrews: Holloway kept chipping away at a tough Clay Collard, who came in on a week’s notice. Give Holloway credit for not panicking and sticking to his game. He said he wants to avenge his loss to Dennis Bermudez or fight Dennis Siver. Would be an interesting matchup.

WINNER: THALES LEITES VIA 2ND RD KNOCKOUT

Andrews:  The mental letdown  for Francis Camont reared its head again. He let Leites dictate the fight, and got caught with a stiff right hand against the cage. Thales Leites now finishes fights!

WINNER: JORDAN MEIN VIA  1ST RD TKO.

Andrews: Impressive win for Mein, considering all that’s he had to go through outside the octagon the last 48 hours with his father. He faked downstairs, came back up and landed two beautiful left hands that dropped Pyle. Quick and tidy work for The Young Gun.

WINNER: RAFAEL DOS ANJOS VIA 1ST RD KNOCKOUT

Andrews: Stunning upset win for RDA. Henderson definitely went down  and was saved by John McCarthy in the first round! It wasn’t lucky either. RDA was winning the round with crisp leg kicks and strikes, backing up Benson.
