MMA Crossfire – Adonis Stevenson vs Dmitri Sukhotskiy predictions

Adonis “Superman” Stevenson (24-1-0, 20 KOs) is rolling.

The 37-year-old WBC light-heavyweight champion has won his last eleven fights, with another hometown bout tomorrow against 33-year-old Russian challenger Dmitri Sukhotskiy (22-2-0, 16 KOs), a winner of four straight.

The money is on Superman, but not so fast. Sukhotskiy said that Stevenson “looked nervous” at the presser, “like he wasn’t ready to fight.”

Many critics are wondering why Stevenson hasn’t fought WBO, IBF, and WBA champ Sergey Kovalev, who is defending against Canadian Jean Pascal in March.

The worst thing Stevenson can do is overlook his opponent. He says he is focused, but with more attractive looking fights on the horizon, it’s easy to get distracted.

We’ll have to see who makes the statement Friday night at the Pepsi Coliseum in Quebec City.

Welcome back to The Crossfire.

MMA Crossfire Expert Noel Clubb is away, so Kenai Andrews checks in with his thoughts on the main event.

Andrews: Stevenson is the power–punching southpaw tries to punish his opponents but can also go the distance. Sukhotskiy is a decent fighter, but the fight depends on the performance of Superman. If he coasts, or overlooks his opponent, Dmitri is more than good enough to win. If he handles his business, he should win.

I think Superman will show up, because he has to win impressively to build his name and cash in on the more attractive fights.  Sure, Dmitri has motivation to win, but the bottom line is Superman wins, by TKO.

Andrews Prediction: Adonis “Superman” Stevenson via TKO.
